Story of the Necker Red

On the 21st June 2013, Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin Staff from London, New York and Geneva, got on their red Gandys to celebrate the best holiday in our calendar year, INTERNATIONAL FLIP FLOP DAY.

The Virgin iconic colour is red, so fitting that they would choose Gandys' very own 'Tokyo Red' - shortly to be renamed ‘Necker Red’ as a thank you to the famous entrepreneur for his support of the brand.

‘Rob and Paul Forkan’s story was very moving and I was humbled by their ability to turn a personal tragedy into something so positive. They are inspiring young entrepreneurs, starting out in business but also trying to transform the lives of children in need. We’re happy to be supporting them and I love that Necker Island now has a flip flop named after it!’ said Sir Richard Branson.

‘We approached Richard because he’s not your typical suit and tie businessman,’ said Paul. ‘He’s well-known for supporting social enterprises so we knew he would be the perfect person to help us make International Flip Flop day go global!’

Through Virgin Unite, Richard and the Virgin businesses use their entrepreneurial energy to support aspiring entrepreneurs. Virgin is working to foster and mentor a new generation of entrepreneurs through initiatives such as The Branson Centres of Entrepreneurship in Johannesburg and Jamaica, Virgin Money’s work with the Start Up Loans scheme in the N.E. of the UK and Virgin Media Pioneers’ network throughout the UK.

‘It’s amazing having Richard Branson and the whole of Virgin’s support - he’s always been a huge inspiration to my brother and I because he’s such an incredible entrepreneur,’ said Rob, ‘We’ve always admired that Virgin businesses are a force for good in the world, as it’s something really important to us.’
