The last time Rob and Paul were in Sri Lanka was in the aftermath of the Boxing Day Tsunami, lost and with nothing but the clothes on their backs, hitchhiking 200 miles with their younger brother & sister as they searched for a way back to London.
230,000 people lost their lives that day, including their parents.
This past November, as they sat at Heathrow airport about to take off to the place that took so much from them, they wrote a heartfelt Facebook message about their experience that went viral with almost one million views and thousands of people commenting over the 12 hours in which it took to fly there. Upon landing and seeing the outpouring of support and messages from total strangers it gave them the strength they needed to make the trip a success.
They returned to visit the various projects and children's homes that Gandys and Accessorize are supporting through EMERGE, an organisation that supports disadvantaged children by providing them a safe place to live and an education.
Peter Simon, founder of Monsoon Accessorize was also visiting the projects as well as Prime Minister David Cameron who publicly showed his support of the brothers and the Gandys mission stating, "I think it's extraordinarily brave to come back to a country where there are unhappy memories for them and to help with these orphanage projects. They're amazing guys and I really back what they're doing."
